hmm... long time no post for me...... Colorado is about the same as ever...(meaning I'd rather be in Maryland)... on the other hand, I got a chance to do a few laps in the pool here at the hotel. Only about 15 minutes though, since it was a rather small pool, and I was sharing it with about 6 kids..... oh well.. such is life...

Laura, how did you feel when running? Did you get hurt or was it just a case of overtraining? In either case, you might want to switch to biking or swimming for a while til you feel better. If you're getting down, remember it's a gradual process. It's better to make slow progress than to injure yourself and quit. It might also help if you went running with someone. (Didn't you do that last year?) I recently started running with some people, and it makes the time pass so much quicker. (It turns out one of them is interested in neuro-science!) Plus we "push" each other's pace and it's always good to have someone pissed off when you don't show. :P I hope this helps, if not, I might have to get "creative" if you still need some extra incentive.

Hmm... well, I didn't manage to run Saturday or Sunday, so I put on my shoes and made an attempt this evening. I barely got 20 minutes before my knee started to spasm... so I gave it up as a lost cause. I think I'm going to revise my short term goals to get in a bunch of looong walks..... If I can't manage even a short run, then I need to find other methods of 'training'...

Recently I've had the worst luck with donating blood. I don't know what changed, I was able to donate for years, but the last three times I tried I they couldn't draw blood. Oh well, I guess I don't have to worry about being faint when running... Yesterday I went to the first meeting of a marathon training program, I'm not really sure if it was worth the money, but it was nice to run with people again. I felt like most people were starting slow, but it was fun to talk about whether it is better to run or walk in the rain.

My legs are starting to feel better, I've came to the conclusion that running on concrete was the real culprit of my wear and tear. So I've been avoiding the canal trail, which is kind of a pity. On the plus side, I've became a much better swimmer. After "swimming" in the pool for a couple hours, you sorta learn some breathing techniques.

Laura, I'm glad you found a cooler time to run, running in the heat really sucks. I really don't like having to worry about finding water or dealing with a sweat heavy shirt. But if running in the evening is too late or inconvienent, you can always run on a treadmill. Yes, there are some pros and cons, but sometimes its necessary.

I'm not to keen about doing accounting tricks with my goals, it's like setting your clock 5 minutes fast so you can "trick" yourself into being on time, but in reality, you always know what time it is ACTUALLY. Set realistic goals and deal with them, anything else smacks of doublespeak.

Hmm.. well, I didn't manage 10 miles on Tuesday.. in fact, I barely managed around 6 to 7 miles, with the last mile or so at a limp... (ouch!! ) looking over my posts, it seems I am consistently not managing the mileage goals I've set for myself. That means I guess I should do one of two things.... recenter my goals downward to reflect what I'm actually doing or assume that since I'll always fail by the fixed amount, I should increase my goals, that way when I fail to meet them, I'm actually managing to meet my original goal.... :P hmmm.....

Anyhoo.. running after 7:00 or so seems to be much nicer than running at 4:30.... big surprise, it's cooler out once the sun sets.... .. This weekend I'll be trying for 16 miles (truthfully-14, realistically-maybe 12)....

I still haven't regained my initiative.... though I have plans to put on my shoes and start running shortly after writing up this entry!! I looked over my proposed training regime and realized that I should have been up to a 14 mile run last Saturday, instead, the most recent run I've had was about 3 weeks (4 weeks?) ago, weighing in at maybe 10 miles....I think the biggest reason I have for my lack of motivation is that it's just getting so damned HOT that running after work, or even at 8 am on a saturday makes me feel lightheaded. So my two options are either to get up really frigging early in the morning to do my weekday runs or waiting until sunset. Both of these have massive disadvantages.

Oh well, I guess we'll see how far I manage to get tonight (I'd like to do 10 miles..... haha)

Yeah, I haven't been doing too much better. I kinda overtrained, so now I'm running about 1/3 of what I did last week. My motivation is waning a little too, I really need to get an mp3 player to make those long runs bearable. Although, on the plus side, I'm going to join a "marathon program" on Wednesday so I'll at least have some company. What are you guys up to?
